Position Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer (VP, Finance) provides strategic and operational leadership for all financial functions of the organization—including its 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and PAC entities. As the organization’s top financial executive, this role serves as the primary financial steward and accounting advisor to the Executive Director, President, Senior Vice President- Partnerships & Infrastructure, the Leadership Team and Board of Directors.
This leader will build and lead a world-class finance function ensuring the long-term financial health of the organization, that drives scalable, technology-enabled innovation and maintains strict compliance with nonprofit and campaign finance regulations.
The ideal candidate is a mission-aligned and hands-on financial executive who possesses the deep technical accounting and controls expertise for a complex, multi-entity function while driving impact for LEE. This Chief Financial Officer (VP, Finance) reports to the Executive Director, serves on LEE’s Leadership Team, and manages the finance team.

Position Location: Flexible
Travel Requirements: 25%, including team retreats and nationwide travel at least twice a year
Responsibilities:
Executive Financial Leadership (30%)
Lead the finance strategy across all LEE entities (LEE, LEE Foundation & PACs) in alignment with industry standard accounting principles and in compliance with IRS standards and federal, state, and local law
Partner with the Executive Director, President, and SVP- Partnerships & Infrastructure to set long-term financial strategies and goals across all LEE entities
Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop and monitor resource allocation, forecasts and expenditures supporting the organization's mission and growth initiatives
Champion the development and implementation of a robust, tech-enabled, and scalable infrastructure to ensure the highest level of financial controls and security
Financial Operations & Compliance (30%)
Lead all accounting and financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparent reporting
Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and a strict segregation of duties to minimize risk, protect assets, and foster a culture of accountability
Deliver timely and accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting
Manage external relationships and audit processes and serve as a point of contact for auditors, consultants, and regulatory bodies
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) (15%)
In alignment with the organizational annual and multi-year strategic planning led by the Partnerships & Infrastructure Team, lead organization and team-based budgeting process
Transform FP&A from a reactive process to a forward-looking function that drives strategic decisions
Provide timely and accurate financial analysis, reports, and recommendations to senior leaders and the Board of Directors, including resource allocation, investment options, and risk management insights
Provide recommendations for strategic treasury management to ensure LEE's financial assets are optimized for revenue-generation and efficiently managing assets across LEE’s entities
Team & Organizational Stewardship (15%)
Build and lead a world-class, expert, and high-functioning team and serve as a key member of LEE’s leadership team
Drive a high-performance team culture that balances high standards of accountability and performance with strong support and coaching
Manage a team to take action within and across teams to achieve organizational goals and deliver results
Special Projects (10%)
Lead or contribute to team-level, org-wide, or cross-team special projects to accelerate impact as assigned by manager or designee
Oversee system integrations and automation projects (e.g., Sage, ADP, Concur) to eliminate manual processes and journal entries
Provide short-term coverage for finance team duties during a leave, vacancy, or PTO
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business field; or commensurate years of work experience (If you do not hold a Bachelor’s degree an additional 4 years of relevant experience is required. If you hold an Associate’s degree an additional 2 years of relevant experience is required.)
10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a CFO, VP Finance, or equivalent top financial role
Mission-driven, collaborative mindset, and a commitment to ethical financial management and transparency
Deep functional expertise in accounting with a proven track record of managing all financial and accounting operations
Demonstrated expertise in multi-entity finance and compliance
Experience managing a budget of at least $15M or higher
Demonstrated expertise in Sage Intacct and experience managing integrations with Sage Intacct
Strong people management experience with a player/coach mindset who is committed to the "doing" of the work and mentoring staff
Expertise in compliance, regulatory reporting, and designing internal control systems
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate within a geographically dispersed team
Strong, demonstrated commitment to LEE’s mission, core values, and theory of change
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA or MBA preferred
Entrepreneurial mindset
Timely Project Management experience
Ad-hoc Senior Management reporting
Experience leveraging AI-enabled analytics and reporting tools
Physical Requirements & Work Demands:
This position is primarily a sedentary role working with colleagues based around the country using remote technologies.
The person in this position will need to have the ability to travel to in-person meetings in various U.S. cities.
Occasional evening and/or weekend work is required.

Benefits and Pay
Compensation for the Vice President role starts at $165,350-$215,000. Pay is competitive and based upon relevant experience and cost of labor for your location.
